ABSTRACT

With the advent of social networks like Facebook, Twitter, etc., large amounts of data pass through the web every day. Data comes from everywhere, weather information from satellites, posts in social media sites, digital pictures and videos. It can be analysed scientifically to derive useful information. This data is known as big data. Big data can be roughly described as collection of data sets which are large, complex and it includes both structured and unstructured types of data.

Social network data obviously come under big data. So, analysis of social network data is directly related to big data analysis and the techniques involved in big data analysis are applicable to analysis of social network data. The objective of this chapter is to present several approaches developed so far in analyzing social network data through analysis of big data. It also describes some problems which need to be addressed.
