ABSTRACT
This chapter focuses on biomaterials and synthetic strategies used to improve their performance in vivo. The last 20 years witnessed a synergy among chemists, biologists, medical doctors, and engineers in developing biomedical materials. Today we commonly deploy materials in the body that provide significant therapeutic improvements to Pharmaceuticals and to healing of diseased or damaged tissue. As a result, patient outcomes have been vastly improved in such diverse areas as cancer and burns.
