ABSTRACT

Abstract Uniaxial repeated tensile tests and pull-out tests under monotonic and repeated loading have been performed to study the fatigue and bond properties of the aramid based tendon Arapree. In this paper the experiments are described and the results are discussed. Keywords: aramid, Arapree, bond, fatigue, pull-out test, splitting

1 Introduction Within the framework of a project to explore the properties of Arapree and its use as a prestressing tendon some preliminary tests into the bond and fatigue properties of the tendon have been performed [1] [2]. These properties are relevant in the case of railway sleepers, for example, where the prestressing force is transferred to the concrete by bond and which are subjected to relatively high stress alterations.
