Bone volume measurement of human femur head specimens by modeling the histograms of micro-CT images

Morphometric characterization of bone specimens is an important issue since it can be useful for the study and early diagnosis of pathologies such as osteoarthritis or osteoporosis. In the last years many studies worked on the bone characterization by microComputed Tomography (Khun 1980, Odgaard 1997, Parfitt 1983). This technique allows for a nondestructive histomorphometric characterization of the samples.
