ABSTRACT

The use of new forms of fake news and other political fictions produced as a result of new communication and information technologies, together with the historic practice of lawfare waged against popular movements and left-wing political parties with the backing of Brazil’s political and economic elites, has enabled the extreme right to reach the presidential seat of the Brazilian republic. It also exposed the extent to which the realm of (il)legalities is connected to the privileges and hegemony of these same elites.
