ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses bottle feeding and sterilisation of feeding equipment. Sterilisation of feeding equipment includes cold water sterilising, boiling, electric steam sterilising, microwaves, and dishwasher sterilising. Bottles should be rinsed clear of old milk before re-sterilisation – use a bottle brush if needed. Use the equipment provided with the bought unit or something, such as a heavy plate, to keep the bottles and other equipment completely under the solution. Check all equipment is safe to use in a steam steriliser before using. All equipment must have been sterilised, including bottles, teats and teat covers. Leave to drip dry. Boil kettle and leave to cool to around 70°C. Wash hands thoroughly, especially after changing nappies.
