ABSTRACT

It is only possible to understand everyday life in Brazil as a kaleidoscope of emotions. Anger, joy, fury, love, fear, reciprocity and anguish unfold in a large and unequal country, but one with great wealth transforming it into an inscription surface of numerous interstitial practices.

In this chapter, we have decided to summarize, as in the others, the presentation of filial love practices most “representative” of the last decade, but with a particular emphasis upon one of them that we understand as a true symbol of the kaleidoscope that we mention: Mothers for Equality (“Mães pela igualdade”).

We will also make clear the features of the following groups: Mothers Discussing Rights and Education of Children/Mothers Forum (“Mães Dialogando Direitos & Educação dos filhos/Fórum de Mães”), whose members seek to inform and combat the systematic violations of rights to which their children are subjected during the fulfilment of socio-educational measures; and Mothers in Mourning in the East Zone (“Mães em Luto da Zona Leste”) who, under the slogan “no bullet is going to shut us up” declare that on Facebook that “This page is about mothers who lost their children at the hands of unprepared cops”. 1
