ABSTRACT

The 64 km long Brenner Base Tunnel is the heart of the SCAN-MED Trans-European Corridor. To the north, the BBT tunnel system is linked not only with Innsbruck central station but also to the access routes in the Lower Inn Valley and, to the south, with the planned new railway stretches running toward Verona. Changes were made to the project during the authorization procedures. In addition to this, BBT SE had already been considering optimizations based on experience obtained during other long tunnel projects and the current technological state of the art. There was also the need for greater in-depth uniformity of specifications and construction details as a basis for the tender procedures for the main tubes in both Austria and Italy. This contribution is meant to give an overview of the experience and results from transnational guide design planning, divided into various working groups.
