ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to answer questions such as how the Chinese trade policy formulation systems is structured, how trade players influence Chinese trade policy, and what is China's perspective on trade issues and negotiations. The turn is to China, the world's second largest economy and a leading merchandise trading nation in 2014 and 2015. An economy as large as the Chinese one which started to adopt market practices could not be out of the world trading system for too long. This would not have been good either for the world trade organization (WTO) or for China itself. Thus, and after protracted and complex negotiations, China signed the Protocol of Accession to the WTO in 2001, and became a full member of this International Trade organization in 2015. As the size of its economy suggests, China is one of the most active WTO Members regarding the imposition of trade remedies.
