ABSTRACT

The importance, to the design community, of studying people was formally introduced during the 20th century, after the rational wave of design and methods movement that characterized the 1960s1. Various research approaches from the social sciences, anthropology, psychology, ergonomics, human factors, and other human sciences made their way to the practice of design, shaping the approaches used today. From different angles, each approach gives designers tools to gain an understanding of their intended audiences2.
