ABSTRACT

This chapter looks at the current state of Burmese language publications on China. It notes that although there is a lot of interest in Chinese Studies in Myanmar, the state of scholarly publications on China is inadequate. Among the non-fiction books, there has been strong interest in the biographies of major Chinese leaders during the communist era such as Mao Zedong and Deng Xiaoping, and also the institutions of the Chinese Communist Party. This is followed by some studies of Chinese foreign relations and contemporary Chinese governance. This chapter concludes that given the rising demands from Myanmar society and the importance of China to Myanmar, there should be more scholarly efforts devoted to China Studies in the coming years.
