ABSTRACT

Chelfham Mill School is an independent, residential school approved by the Department of Education and Science. It was established in 1966 to develop and effect methods of behaviour change with emotionally disturbed children. The school is situated some four miles from the market town of Barnstaple in picturesque North Devon, England. It is a small country house set in 57 acres of woods and pasture with its own trout stream. Many of the outbuildings have been converted to classrooms or accommodation, but the whole atmosphere has been kept homely rather than institutional.
