ABSTRACT

Brucellosis is an infectious disease caused by nonmotile, Gram-negative coccobacilli of the genus Brucella. Humans acquire this infection through direct or indirect contact with zoonotic infections of wild and domesticated animals [1-4]. However, since the early days of the U.S. biological weapons program, Brucella sp. were recognized as possessing the characteristics of an effective weapon. These bacteria are highly pathogenic to both humans and animals, easily grown in the laboratory, and can be disseminated by aerosolization by various methods [5-8].
