The roles one creates for himself throughout his personal and working lives inevitably cross over into one another, and this means that key decisions about his future have a knock-on effect in all his roles. His plan may be focused purely on developing the revenue or profitability of the existing business, or he may wish to change the profile of his business altogether by introducing new products and services, or even moving the location of the business. A more radical plan may incorporate more fundamental changes and could include bringing on board a partner, moving premises, buying an additional business or selling the business altogether. Many practice owners find it challenging to stand back and plan for the future, and it could be beneficial to bring in a third party who can advise him independently about the choices he has to make that may make a difference to his future, both in a professional and personal sense.
