ABSTRACT
The English psychoanalyst W. R. Bion introduced the idea of caesura to change the focus from self or object to the link between. Caesura signifies a paradoxical space that contains both similarity and difference and focuses on simultaneity and complexity rather than linear ideas of cause and effect. This chapter explores the relationship to time and a destructive form of shame that undermines the capacity for creativity and communication. Personal experiences are woven into reflections on the work of W. R. Bion.
