The top-selling product for the company was a riding lawn mower unit and the company employed 85 people and operated in one production shift. The company made several engineering design changes and began to experience quality failures in the drive chain of the lawn mowers. The purposes of the study were to understand the cause of the defects, quantify the amount of defects, identify the cause, and eliminate the defects.
