ABSTRACT

This chapter provides a reading of the Geneva Motor Show informed by the automobility studies literature. That literature provides a set of analytic tools for locating the automobiles, the exhibitors, the visitors, and the architectural space of the motor show, within the larger system of automobility. Appropriately read and contextualized, motor shows provide an exemplary illustration of the central themes that have been addressed within the automobility literature. Above all, as spectacle and celebration of automobility, motor shows contribute in significant and unique ways to the continued legitimation, reproduction and expansion of automobility across the planet.
