ABSTRACT

This chapter begins with an explanation of cell structure, separated into the three main cell components: plasma membrane, cytoplasm, and nucleus. This is followed in Section 1.3 by a discussion of proteins, and their use by the cell to perform various functions. Section 1.4 explains the structures and functions of genes, which are the inherited material of the cell. Finally, since knowledge of the cell cycle is crucial to understanding cell behavior, the last section of this chapter is dedicated to this issue. The chapter concludes with review questions.
