ABSTRACT
This book has been concerned with the cross-linguistic contrast of some major grammatical categories in English and Chinese, two important yet distinctly different world languages. Grammatical categories such as aspect markers, completive and durative temporal adverbials, quantifi ers, passives, and negation all contribute to aspectual meaning by interacting with situation aspect or viewpoint aspect in one way or another. This book has explored these features in contrast between English and Chinese. In this fi nal chapter, we will summarize the major fi ndings of our research, discuss the challenge and promise of corpus-based contrastive studies of two genetically different languages, and explore the way forward by proposing a model of Contrastive Corpus Linguistics.
