ABSTRACT
Our research is focused on understanding bacterial arsenic resistance on the molecular level. This is done by a combination of molecular genetic, biochemical and biophysical techniques. Of special interest are changes in protein structure for example upon binding of arsenite or during extrusion of arsenite from the cell. Our model organism is Bacillus subtilis which is a common soil bacterium with a well understood physiology and sequenced genome.
