In this chapter, Kristie Opiola and Dee Ray introduce us to a courageous 6-year-old terminally ill girl, who under the gentle guidance of her therapist using client-centered play therapy faces the many challenges that confront her and her family in the waning moments of her life. The authors address how child-centered play therapy (CCPT) is recognized in the medical community as an intervention that meets a child’s developmental needs while facilitating her natural progression toward self-acceptance and enhancement, as well as being a valid therapeutic approach that relies on the skill and personage of the clinician within the play context.
