by Class 4 of Ewelme C of E Primary School (based on Philip Gross’s poem ‘The Doors’) (see workshop p. 22/CD track 8)

Down the white corridor are many different coloured doors Behind the white door there is Cloud World with a sea of snow pool of ice waterfall of milk creamy forests elegant snowdrops white doves and silver deer. All around a marble palace. A diamond sun, a sapphire sky, all behind a little white door. Behind the pale blue door we found a person, and she was white and cold, her skin was icy to touch. Her eyes were dull and had no sparkle. Looking round the room, we saw many different things, it was just like a doll’s house, then suddenly it dawned on us, it was one. The people were porcelain dolls, that was why they were so silent and still, we came back out and … One is black and has green eyes with a bright pink nose that always shines! Inside it is a great big room above you, dusty wooden beams loom. In the corner are lots of sacks full to the brim with kittens and cats. Until you see it, you’re never quite sure. but that’s what’s behind the cat face door. Behind the gold and silver door there is a weird universe with lots of strange shaped planets and a planet called maggot world. Maggot world is a funny place with maggots, worms and snakes, poisonous gorillas, man-eating ants, giant woodlice and monster millipedes. Maggot world is a funny place It’s weird all around! 130Behind the saucy door all you can see is a town made out of eatable squishable sauce. Hot dog men covered in sauce walking over the ketchup path. Bricks of houses are made out of jelly ketchup and mustard. What do you think? Behind the camouflage door is a vulnerable place: tanks, jeeps, guns and turrets. War world is a vulnerable place with mayhem all around. Behind the candy floss door there’s a magical world of candy. Chocolate mousses munch on the caramel rocks and slurp the trickling flow of fudge. Jelly babies bounce on the colourful candy floss clouds. The orchard of lollypop trees grow on with everlasting flowers. That is what’s behind the candy floss door. Behind the black door with lots of terrifying creatures like blood sucking bats, scuttling sickening spiders crawling crusty cockroaches man eating moths and lurking leeches. A scruffy screeching owl hoots. Behind the rainbow-coloured door is where the rainbow ends. A weather man looks after all the animals: red, running rabbits, orange octopuses eating oranges, yellow yaks yakking, green goats eating green grass, blue bats eating blueberries, indigo insects in igloos and violet vultures venturing. That’s what there is at the end of the rainbow. Down the white corridor are many coloured doors.
