This chapter provides an update of the overhauled and rapidly evolving China–European Union (EU) relations. It also provides a real-life image of present-day global conversations and governance techniques as they evolve in the concert of current world politics. The chapter focuses on the cases of the EU, China, the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN), as well as surrounding and connected geographic areas. It concludes that socialising and engaging a new partner in world affairs leads to adaptation and layering of the formats and techniques of engagement. The bilateral relationship between the EU and China is characterised by the EU's awareness of the still rising importance of China as a key global economic power. Since its initiation, the G20 has consolidated its status as the centre of gravity of global economic governance. The observations and insights offered in the chapter add to the empirical knowledge of the multidimensional relationship between China and the EU.
