ABSTRACT

Although the religious-liberty circumstances of Muslims and conservative Christians differ in some ways, the two share important features including the fact that others view them with hostility, as 'Christian bigots' or 'Muslim terrorists'. RFRA protected conservative Christians in Hobby Lobby, and in response progressives want to weaken the statute and stop any new state versions from passing. Consider a final point relevant to both Muslims and conservative Christians: Protecting the religious liberty of members of a group will tend to cement the group's allegiance to the nation, while attacking their religious liberty will undermine it. Increasingly, it will be important to head off such dangers with respect to conservative Christians. Although the religious-liberty circumstances of Muslims and conservative Christians differ in some ways, the two share important features – including the fact that others view them with hostility, as ‘Christian bigots’ or ‘Muslim terrorists’.
