ABSTRACT

Ever since the atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, there has been resistance in America against its further use, first from the scientists and technicians who created it. They opposed a further attack, on Nagasaki. Upon occupying Japan, America was triumphant over the creation of the atomic bomb and its decisive ending of the war. The first attempt to subvert the peace provisions of Japan's Constitution were made by General MacArthur, who headed the occupation and was the man most responsible for the new democratic Constitution now enjoyed by Japan. Okinawa never regained its sovereignty after it became a prefecture of Japan in 1872. Moreover, in the vicious battle on the island between America and Japan more than 100,000 Okinawans died. During the 1950s anti-American feelings began to take root among the Japanese people.
