ABSTRACT

SETTING THE SCENE The term ‘supervision’ is now commonplace, not only in the fields of art therapy, psychotherapy and counselling but throughout many of the helping professions such as nursing and social work. However, there seems to be little evidence to suggest that there is a shared understanding of the term, either between or in some cases within disciplines. Perhaps one source of confusion is the fact that supervision is not a straightforward term, and can refer to a host of approaches and arrangements.
