ABSTRACT

Patient Assessment Thoracic radiographs demonstrated pneumothorax with rib fractures, pulmonary contusion, and multiple skull fractures. Abdominal radiographs demonstrated lumbar streaking suggestive of extra-peritoneal hemorrhage. The patient was depressed, but was able to be aroused and had direct and consensual pupillary eye reflexes. A full neurologic examination was to be performed following resuscitation. The patient was placed on IV fluids with full shock doses administered as repeated assessments dictated. Pulse oximetery was monitored together with respirations and mentation. Repeated thoracic radiographs were performed three hours after admission. The patient responded well to initial treatment. A neurologic examination revealed normal mentation and cranial nerve examination gave no suggestion of increased intracranial pressure or brain damage.
