ABSTRACT

This chapter shows the importance of understanding that field texts are also composed and collected within the relational field of narrative inquiry. With the relational ontology of narrative inquiry it is more appropriate to refer to co-composing of field texts than of composing field texts. The processes of co-composing field texts are shaped by the ongoing narrative inquiry that is, possibilities for co-composing field texts are opened, made visible, closed, and reopened as the relational field of narrative inquiry is shaped. Some of the field texts were co-composed in the art club with the youth and included mask making, print making, memory box making, creating ear rings and other jewelry, beading, photography, and collages. Co-composing annals, as a kind of field text, was particularly powerful in this narrative inquiry as Sean used it as he moved from field texts to interim research texts.
