ABSTRACT

This chapter consolidates the knowledge presented previously and establishes a link between the practices in this book and the communication techniques from project management references such as the PMBOK Guide, the ICB, and PRINCE2. It presents the main forms of communication that global program and project managers can use for information collection, distribution and exchange during the project execution, monitoring and controlling activities. The different locations and organisations participating in a global project can have diverse methods and tools to gather information about time, cost and project performance. The program or project office may need to define manual or automated processes to combine the information available in different formats, to produce consolidated reports and performance summaries. Global projects will benefit from a standard method, to be used by all project team members, when recording the time spent for each work package and when reporting the cost items.
