ABSTRACT

Up till 1990, in the centrally planned economy of Poland only coarse thermal coal was beneficiated. At the same time all coking coal was processed. Transformation to market economy meant implementing preparation of thermal coal fines as well. As a result new preparation plants were constructed. In addition closure of non-profitable mines released some ben-eficiation capacity that is now used to process coal fines from the operating mines. The paper presents current technology of bituminous coal preparation in Poland and reviews the related flowsheets. Also discussed are specifications of run-of-mine coal as well as products of coal preparation. The most important equipment and facilities used in coal preparation are described.
