ABSTRACT

Principles of responsible citizenship that can contribute to the development of a pedagogy of collaboration in dance making contexts are examined. Philosophical ideas about relational being and what it means for people to be, think, and act together contribute to a framework for investigating communication and habits among dance makers. Rehearsal is posited as a fertile pedagogical space that provides tools for dialogue that enhance the experience and outcomes of collaborative work. Specifically, the skills of Listening and Being Present and Voice and Bodying are posited as a means to re-constitute power in ways that honor differences and create similarities among dance makers engaging together to make dance.
