ABSTRACT

The following short playscript is based on the life of the Jamaican nurse, Mary Seacole, who, like her contemporary, Florence Nightingale, went to the Crimea to nurse British soldiers when war broke out in 1854. Whereas Florence Nightingale is respected as a heroine and is even referred to in schemes of work devised by the Qualification and Curriculum Authority (QCA), Mary Seacole has been virtually forgotten.
