ABSTRACT
This collaboration is a relevant example of the reception in the United States of European refugee mathematicians. When Sammy got out of Poland in 1939, he found a position at the University of Michigan. And it was there that Sammy and I started our collaboration, one small, but typical, example of East meets West.
