ABSTRACT
This chapter examines the potential for development in the major communication technologies and systems. It discusses the relevance of the innovations for future international tele-education systems. The technological innovations will have significant impact on the development of telecommunication systems. The emerging telecommunication technologies and systems will have significant impact on the office of the future and the home communication environment. Computer applications are becoming omnipresent in individual households and multinational corporations, as well as in governmental and educational institutions. Fiber optics, a new type of cable technology, promises to bring about radical changes in the wire communication system. Artists’ concepts and drawings of geostationary space platforms have shown them bristling with many antennas of different types and sizes. A new partnership between education and telecommunications could foster equal educational opportunity nationally and internationally. The prospect for an active role of telecommunications in the education process seems bright.
