ABSTRACT
The roots of classic "CRAM" planning lie in the Age of Enlightenment's rationalism and scientific method. It has several twentieth-century roots:
• Housing and town planning, led by architects and engineers, expanded into "city beautiful" master planning, and later widened to include some social planning.
