ABSTRACT

The paper presents a computer assisted method of conveyor belt tension calculations, developed in the Department of Mining, Metallurgical and Petroleum Engineering at the University of Alberta. The actual tension calculations are based on the procedures recommended by the Conveyor Equipment Manufacturers Association (CEMA), modified to better reflect specifics of mine conveying. Related programs can be run on the IBM PC or combatible microcomputer. The discussed method was developed primarily for the belt conveyors used in surface mines, however, it is also suitable for other conveyor applications.
