ABSTRACT

Advancements in automation and networking have upgraded the productivity of autonomous vehicles in the transport industry. These vehicles are embedded with sensors that are capable of capturing information from the surroundings, which is further utilized by the drivers and core infrastructure to assist in navigation and control. These partially or fully automated vehicles carry countless benefits including ultimate reliability, safety, energy efficiency, and more responsiveness. However, expansion of connectivity and automation intensifies security risks by giving a plethora of opportunities to adversaries for realizing attacks in real-time. Vulnerabilities associated with the underlying computing paradigms and technologies provide them a way to explore new threats. Researchers are also keen to address the problems associated with these intelligent systems. In this regard, this chapter discusses the key technologies including artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud computing and security issues associated with the autonomous vehicles. In addition, ongoing research efforts and open challenges are also discussed.
