Concentration and Internationalisation in Banks after the Second World War

This chapter will survey the main trends in the internationalisation of banking over the last fifty years. It will deal primarily with developments in the three main banking markets of Europe, the United States and Japan. The focus will be to try to explain the radical changes which have occurred in international banking in this era. Within the general theme of internationalisation, the issues of size, nationality and risk will also be addressed.
