ABSTRACT

In the Introduction to Part I we referred to the need for a broadcast journalist to acquire a ‘toolkit for critical understanding’, but the contextual explanations that accompany the practical content of this book have probably left the reader wondering how this can be achieved in the future; or, at least, what the future is likely to hold. For many years now certain undercurrents of change have proved troublesome for many industry stakeholders. One is the future of broadcast journalism in a converged, multi-platform environment. Certainly, the broadcast journalist has to navigate a way through a landscape that is rapidly transforming, influenced by patterns of usage, themselves enabled by technological developments.
