ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts discussed in this book. The United States is awash in division and differences, and each policy issue has been examined by intense partisan debate. Congress is viewed with disdain and marked by so-called "gridlockracy"; President Donald Trump entered office with the lowest approval rate in modern history; and the American people are not only mistrustful of their government and leaders but are increasingly taking to the streets to register their displeasure with a fragile and failing democracy. The growing perception among more and more Americans is that the government does not work or works only for the rich and the well-born. Nagging economic and social problems are ignored, while politicians become captive to special interests, all in the name of campaign contributions. Hope and confidence have now been replaced with cynicism and anger and those entrusted with running our government are viewed with suspicion.
