ABSTRACT

The conclusion chapter presents some closing thoughts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book explains that urban space shows a significant turn towards hypersexualized representations of women in the cities of North America, Australia, the United Kingdom and Europe, with a surge in the links between the contemporary city and the infrastructures of new media. It explains how hypersexualized advertising, images and bodies often create the context for our occupation of urban space. The book argues that contemporary cities now form not only the context but also one of the principal media for the visual delivery of 'porno-chic' representations and hypersexualized media. It outlines how the material of cities is a site for hypersexualization that if used uncritically can undermine equality and exploit women's often perilous position in contemporary culture. The city becomes subject to hypersexualized tactics from advertising media as well as from architecture vying for the public's attention.
