ABSTRACT

John Corrigan and Winthrop S. Hudson similarly state that among the Western nations, the USA was the first to define the state separate from religion. They also say that American religious history can also take credit for ending slavery, for philanthropic efforts to help the poor, for social reform, for women’s movements, for peace movements, and social justice. For instance, Valarie Kaur, in her documentary, Divided We Fall, travels to 14 American cities to examine the hate crimes against the Sikhs in the aftermath of September 11, 2001. Many Indian immigrants also achieve their Indian or Hindu dream as they live their American dream while settling down in the USA. Although some observers, such as Lisa Miller, have already noted the increasingly pluralistic worldview of many Americans, there are several institutional and structural roadblocks and bottlenecks to be overcome.
