ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book describes the workshop that preceded it were born of the need to do something about an idea labeled “international tele-education”. It provides a structure for thinking about why international tele-education is important and how the idea can be realized if enough people believe in it and work toward it. Participation in the debate may not alone be sufficient to carry the day for a particular point of view in a particular arena, or to achieve consensus and action on an agenda-but participation is unquestionably necessary if international tele-education is to become more than a few isolated and relatively brief efforts. If it should become more, is the time to put it to the test; or rather, the various tests that interested parties can construct based on their different visions of what the concept means.
