ABSTRACT
This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book focused on the various strands of reflection on the subjects of public theology, political theology, and civil society. It wanted to make clear the way in which Jürgen Moltmann's theology offers resources for a further development in public theological discourse- through his creative and critical use of philosophical and sociological categories, through his eschatological approach to ethics, through his doctrines of the trinity and anthropology, and particularly through his understanding of the role of the church within a complex and pluralistic society. The book considered the various problems raised for Christian theology in a modernist social framework. Privatization, instrumentalism, and individualism are threats that theology must confront directly. It explained those themes that may allow theology to more fully recognize and respond to the public obligations implied by life in modern society.
