ABSTRACT

This chapter provides an overview of the changes needed to convert an existing process into a concurrent engineering (CE) process. Companies that convert to an effective CE environment must undergo change at a very basic and fundamental level. CE is the development process which provides a method to minimize life cycle costs, maximize quality, provide competitive advantage, and does this in a very short design cycle. Companies that convert to an effective CE environment must undergo change at a very basic and fundamental level. CE is the development process which provides a method to minimize life cycle costs, maximize quality, provide competitive advantage, and does this in a very short design cycle. In the CE process, concept development is a prime area of change. The development process without a CE mindset can have market assessments, manufacturing inputs, or changes made to the product by the engineering community prior to shipment.
