ABSTRACT

Every generation inherits a unique legacy of technology. The dominant emerging media technology at the close of the 20th century has been the computer. One application of this technology in particular has until recently remained relatively obscure, generally considered a mysterious realm of “techies” conversing in what the layman would consider “computer gibberish.” With the invention of hyperlinks in 1989 and graphical browsers in 1993, however, previous notions of communication were forever altered.
