ABSTRACT

Conrad Michael Harris attended University of Liverpool Medical School in 1951, graduating in 1957. This is where he met his wife Malvina, who was also a general practitioner. Harris showed an early interest in medical education, particularly in the teaching and training of general practice. Away from medical curriculum work and teaching, he had other roles. Harris became a Member of the Royal College of General Practitioner examiner from 1968, Secretary of the Royal College of General Practitioner (RCGP) Education Committee from 1969, a Member of RCGP Council also from 1969 and was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of General Practitioner in 1970. In 1970, he decided to become a full-time academic, and spent four years at the University of Manchester as a senior lecturer in the first Department of General Practice in England. In 1974, Harris was asked to set up a department of general practice at St Mary’s Hospital Medical School.
