ABSTRACT

The role that experiential factors play in determining variation in children’s cognitive growth has been at the heart of much theorizing in developmental psychology. Multiple factors have been cited as contributing to children’s cognitive development. For example, individual differences in home and family environment play a large role in children’s cognitive growth (e.g., Dickinson & Tabors, 1991; Hewison & Tizard, 1980; Iverson & Walberg, 1984; Payne, Whitehurst, & Angell, 1994).
