ABSTRACT

This chapter provides some cases of the contemporary globalization of development. For that, it first describes the history of the Andean oil rush, gives examples of past efforts to address the Andean oil rush, and suggests ways in which such efforts can be improved or expanded. The chapter also discusses the salient facts in the development of the Andean oil rush. Second, it illustrates the high-speed train development. Third, the chapter explains the biotechnology applications in agriculture. In discussions of biotechnology applications to agriculture or agro-biotechnology, the Green Revolution is often used as an example. This revolution resulting primarily from the development of hybridized high-yield varieties of cereal grains and aided by the expansion of irrigation and of the use of synthetic fertilizers and pesticides. The chapter further considers a few crucial differences between the Green Revolution and agro-biotechnology. Finally, it examines multiple and rapid environmentally significant developments across the countries.
