ABSTRACT

In the 1950s an experiment was carried out to see whether coastal storms along the eastern seaboard could be modified by cloud-seeding procedures. One newspaper account reported that the experiment failed totally. Actually the experiment was a success in that it determined the truth, which was its objective. The truth was that seeding a storm from the air and ground with dry ice and silver iodide didn't produce any large effects. It just happened that this was not a very interesting truth.
